The most impressive mosque we saw was the Ayasofya, or Hagia Sophia. It was the largest church in the world for almost a thousand years, and when Mehmet II conquered Istanbul he turned it into the largest mosque in the world. Atatürk made it a museum, and it is one of the greatest sights in Istanbul.
